/ ˈməʊmənt /
noun
1. a short indefinite period of time
2. a tendency to produce motion, esp. rotation about a point or axis
wamono art is delighted to announce an upcoming exhibition “Moments”, a unique artistic experience born from the dialogue of two artists, Yuko Fukuba Johnsson and Ryan Cheng. This show showcases the creative journey of two artists who have collaborated to bring their artistic dialogue to life. Yuko encapsulates scenes from memories or stories she wishes to eternalize, whereas for Ryan, the focus lies in the essence of throwing and turning of the wheel.
Yuko collects small stones—symbols of the place and witnesses of memorial moments, layers them with colours and textures that reflect her story of the memory. She then fires the containers to integrate the place and the experience, encase them within her Memory Containers. This process allows her to recollect the beautiful moments in her mind and also helps her let go of the fear of losing them. She employs ceramic properties such as shrinkage, weight, and melting points to co-create imperfect forms with materials that embody the beauty of imperfection, much like memories.
Ryan’s ceramic works are thrown on the wheel, turned and then joined to create these sculptural forms. They evolve from the nature of the process as he attempts to express the ideals of his craft. The momentum of the wheel and the interaction of himself with the motion of the clay. There is a mindfulness in the process which is dynamic and clarifying. The clay is centred but it is also in motion. Working in the process one feels like they are moving but at the same time also standing still. The moment is captured in the work.
With their contrasting approaches—Yuko’s focus on preserving memories and Ryan’s exploration of the process—both artists utilize ceramics to transform metaphysical ideas into tangible objects. Their dialogue invites viewers to experience the potential of ceramics to embody both types of moments, revealing new possibilities within the medium.

名詞
